The main campus of UMA is located in a charming part of the city near Mannheim Palace (Mannheimer Schlosse in German). With approximately 12,000 students (17% of which are international), it is one of the main research universities in Germany in the fields of Macroeconomics and Business Administration. In 2019 UMA was ranked 33rd in the world by Times Higher Education in the domains of Economics and Management.

The university prides itself on promoting student well-being and civil engagement: UMA’s current mission is to abolish discrimination against women in the academic world (especially in teaching and research) and support social diversity.
