First semester

Reliability

Objectives

Master the range of common probabilistic reliability models.

Know how to use statistical estimation procedures, moving from the simpler case of independent and identically distributed failure times to the more complex case of dependent failure times.

Design and improve maintenance policies

Course outline

This course begins with an introduction to renewal processes and their estimation, followed by a discussion of Markov processes in the context of continuous-time reliability. Finally, more general cases of semi-Markov processes will be presented in detail and illustrated with examples from the field of dependability.

1: Introduction to reliability

2: Discrete-time reliability: Markov chains

3: Continuous-time reliability: Markov processes

4: Continuous-time reliability: Semi-Markov processes
