Second semester

Practical examples of public policy impact assessment

Objectives

Public policies are generally put in place to improve outcome indicators, for example to raise incomes, facilitate learning or improve health standards. Whether or not the hoped-for changes have actually occurred is a fundamental public policy question. Impact assessments are therefore primarily concerned with determining whether or not a program has achieved the desired results.

Today, evaluation is a key factor in improving public policy, and has become an integral part of the social sciences. Mainly carried out by researchers, this work relies on statistical methods capable of measuring what, in the results observed, is really attributable to public policy.

In France, a number of players are entrusted with this task.

In this course, we will be calling on a number of professionals (France stratégie, Crest, etc.) to present work carried out on a range of specific evaluation topics.
