First semester

Descriptive Statistics

Objectives

Master the statistical tools of Descriptive Statistics (unidimensional study of quantitative or qualitative variables, study of the link between two variables, whatever their nature, graphical representations, interpretation of results, notion of index) and apply these tools under R.

Course outline

Univariate analysis: nature of variables, central tendency, position and dispersion parameters, shape and concentration parameters, Empirical identification of a law; Link between 2 qualitative variables: contingency table, Chi-2 statistic and its derivatives; Link between two quantitative variables: linear correlation coefficient, simple regression; Link between a quantitative variable and a qualitative variable: correlation ratio, one-factor analysis of variance; Notion of index

Prerequisites

Concept of central tendency, position and dispersion indicators; Introduction to R
